PIANO TRIO | MARCH 3, 2026 | 7:30PM
ST. HELEN'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, VANCOUVER
César Franck, one of the towering figures of 19th-century French music, was admired for the warmth and deep lyricism woven through every work he created. His music carries the weight of a full life devoted to beauty.
Guillaume Lekeu was his most devoted pupil — intensely sincere, bursting with restless creative energy. He poured his whole heart into every bar he wrote. But his life was heartbreakingly brief: he died of typhoid fever at just 24 years old.
His Piano Trio, completed in those few precious years, shines as a moving testament to both his immense talent and his unrealized promise.
César Franck — a pillar of French Romanticism, revered for transcendent warmth and harmonic depth.
Guillaume Lekeu — prodigy, disciple, taken by typhoid fever at 24, leaving behind music of shattering beauty.
Placed side by side, their trios become a conversation — teacher to student, life to loss, a torch passed across one too-short lifetime.
