Mel Bonis

Mélanie Hélène Bonis (1858–1937), known professionally as Mel Bonis, was a French composer who blended late-Romantic expressiveness with French elegance. Born in Paris, she was largely self-taught until enrolling at the Paris Conservatoire at sixteen, where she studied under César Franck. Despite societal constraints, Bonis composed over 300 works, including piano solos, chamber music, choral pieces, and orchestral compositions.
