Joachim Raff

Joachim Raff (1822–1882) was a Swiss-born composer whose music once held a prominent place in 19th-century concert halls. Mostly self-taught, he balanced composing with teaching before Mendelssohn recognized his talent, helping him secure his first publications. Raff later worked as Franz Liszt’s assistant, orchestrating several of his symphonic poems.
